Our Story

Welcome to The Journey Counselling and Psychotherapy, where our team of dedicated professionals—Psychotherapists, Social Workers, and Intern Therapists—passionately supports clients in discovering their paths. We firmly believe that your past doesn't dictate your future; you have the power to choose your direction, and we're here to accompany you on your unique journey.

Our founder and Practice Director, Talisa Haskins, embarked on her private practice in March 2020, recognizing a growing need for mental health support. To stay connected in a time when physical togetherness wasn't possible, she established an online practice, laying the groundwork for what was to come.

When naming the practice, Talisa's love for travel and her dedication to mental health collided beautifully. "The Journey" symbolizes the individual paths we walk in life. What began as a solo endeavor swiftly blossomed into a collaborative venture. In March 2022, The Journey Counselling and Psychotherapy was born, reflecting our commitment to guiding others through their unique journeys.

Acknowledgement of Traditional Lands

While we serve clients from all across Ontario, our founding location and current office operates out of the Grey Highlands in Grey County, Ontario. It is important to acknowledge that the Grey Bruce Area now sits on the traditional territory of the Haudensaunee (Iroquois), Ojibway/Chippewa and Anishnabek. This territory is covered by the Upper Canada Treaties.

We acknowledge that we are working on aboriginal land that has been inhabited by Indigenous peoples from the beginning.

As settlers, we're grateful for the opportunity to work here and we thank all the generations of people who have taken care of this land - for thousands of years.

We recognize and deeply appreciate their historic connection to this place. As settlers, this recognition of the contributions and historic importance of Indigenous peoples must also be clearly and overtly connected to our collective commitment to make the promise and the challenge of Truth and Reconciliation real in our communities, and in particular to bring justice for murdered and missing indigenous women and girls across our country.
