Affordable Therapy Program
At the Journey Counselling and Psychotherapy, we believe that every person who wants therapy should receive therapy regardless of the cost.

In January 2023, we launched our affordable therapy program which allowed us to begin offering therapy at a lower, more accessible cost. As the program completed it’s first year, we worked together with our clients to create a new, more sustainable option.

It is our mission to continue to bring therapy to clients, regardless of financial or physical barriers.
Please read through the FAQ’s below. If you or someone you know would benefit from this program, please email our Care Coordinator to be placed with a therapist. We currently have no waiting list for services.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who Are The Therapists?
Sessions will be with our student interns. Our interns are fully qualified masters level students who have completed all required course work and are now entering into the field of practice. Interns are with our practice for 7.5 months. They will work in the same collaborative team environment as our current therapists and will have the full support and mentorship of our staff. Additionally they will be receiving direct supervision by CRPO qualified therapists.
If a client wishes to remain in care when their therapists time within the Affordable Therapy Program comes to an end, clients will be gently transitioned to a new therapist.
What Type Of Services Are Covered Under The Affordable Therapy Program?
All of our current services will be offered under the Affordable Therapy Program. This includes youth and adult individual sessions, couples/ relationship and family therapy.
How It Works?
Clients will be processed through our Care Coordinator during their consultation call. During that call, our Care Coordinator will schedule you for a first session with a therapist. Clients must attend weekly or biweekly sessions to remain in the program. At times, there may be a short waiting list, depending on therapist availability.
For teaching and learning, intern therapists are required to video record sessions. These sessions are shared only with their immediate supervisors and instructors. Only the therapist will appear on video, capturing the client by audio only.
Periodically, you will be asked to provide written feedback in the form of a brief survey to assist in the growth and development of your therapist.

What Does It Cost?
Sessions are $75 plus HST. Clients will discuss their budget for therapy with our Care Coordinator during their free consultation. Clients will have to prove financial need to qualify for the sessions.
How Do I Prove Financial Need?
Each client will be assessed on an individual basis. You will not be required to provide proof of income. Some factors that would qualify you for our affordable therapy program would be; multiple family members accessing therapy, if you are currently on ODSP, single parent/ single income families, low income households. Assessments will be informal and will be conducted by our care coordinator during your initial contact session. If clients are found to be accessing our affordable therapy program unnecessarily, they will be transitioned to another therapist.
