Assessment & Diagnosis

At the Journey Counselling and Psychotherapy, we have partnered with Psychotherapy Matters Virtual Clinic (PMVC) to provide collaborative treatment.

Clients who participate in our assessment and diagnosis program will receive ongoing support from their therapist in partnership with their family doctor and a psychiatrist provided by PMVC.

Your therapist will:

  • Take care of all paperwork

  • Book your appointment

  • Attend the appointment with you to provide support and advocate for you

  • Collaborate directly with the Psychiatrist immediately following your assessment to create a custom treatment plan

  • Receive the assessment report from the Psychiatrist and consult with other professionals (your family doctor and other therapists) to provide you the highest level of care.

  • Assist you with any further advocacy such as applying for an IEP or OSDP.

What to Expect

A trauma informed, personalized experience from start to finish. The appointment time reserved for you, will only be attended by you, your therapist and the psychiatrist. Both professionals will help you feel safe and heard at every step of the process. Follow-up with the same Psychiatrist is possible for continued care.

Our Process

Each client must see their therapist for a minimum of 2 sessions prior to their Psychiatrist appointment with PMVC.

  1. Session 1: your therapist will collect all information required for the paperwork

  2. Paperwork: your therapist will complete all paperwork required.

  3. Doctor’s referral: your therapist will send you a completed package of paperwork to take to your family doctor (nurse practitioner or walk-in clinic is also permissible). Your doctor will sign and fax the completed paperwork directly to PMVC

  4. Your therapist will receive booking invitation from PMVC

  5. Session 2: You will have your second session with your therapist to prepare for the PMVC appointment

  6. PMVC appointment: you will attend your PMVC assessment appointment with your therapist

  7. Debrief: following your appointment your therapist will debrief with you

  8. Additional sessions, consultation and follow up: as desired
