Walk & Talk Therapy in Ontario

Walk & Talk Therapy in Ottawa, Newmarket, Picton, Bala & Wingham

Move Forward While Working Through Life's Challenges

Walk & Talk Therapy combines the benefits of traditional psychotherapy with the restorative effects of movement and nature. Rather than meeting in an office or online, you and your therapist meet outdoors and walk side-by-side while exploring thoughts, emotions, challenges, and goals.

Many people find that walking helps them feel more relaxed, less self-conscious, and better able to express themselves. The natural environment can support emotional regulation, reduce stress, and create a sense of calm that encourages deeper reflection and meaningful conversation.

At The Journey Counselling and Psychotherapy, we offer Walk & Talk Therapy in Ottawa, Newmarket, Picton, Bala, and Wingham, providing clients with a unique opportunity to reconnect with themselves while receiving professional therapeutic support in a comfortable outdoor setting.

Wild Nature

“I go to nature to be soothed and healed, and to have my senses put together”

At The Journey Counselling and Psychotherapy, our walk and talk therapy sessions are designed to help clients feel more grounded, connected, and emotionally regulated while engaging in meaningful therapeutic conversations.

What is Walk and Talk Therapy?

Walk and talk therapy is a form of psychotherapy that takes place outdoors while walking alongside your therapist. Sessions may occur on trails, parks, waterfront paths, or other accessible outdoor spaces depending on your location and therapist availability.

For many people, walking side-by-side can feel less intimidating than sitting face-to-face in an office. The combination of movement, fresh air, and nature can help clients feel more relaxed, emotionally open, and connected to the present moment.

Meeting You Where You Are

At The Journey Counselling and Psychotherapy, accessibility and flexibility are at the heart of our care model. Just as our virtual therapy services were designed to meet clients where they are, our in-person walk and talk therapy sessions are built with the same intention.

For some individuals, sitting face-to-face in a traditional therapy office can feel intimidating or restrictive. Walking outdoors can create a more natural and relaxed environment that encourages openness, reflection, and self-discovery.

Our therapists use intentionally selected meeting points and walking routes that prioritize:

  • Safety

  • Accessibility

  • Comfort

  • Privacy considerations

  • Ease of navigation

  • Nervous system regulation

We typically encourage clients to begin with a virtual session to establish therapeutic goals, review consent and safety considerations, and ensure walk and talk therapy is the right fit for their needs.

Once an outdoor session is scheduled, our admin team will provide detailed meeting instructions, location information, and any relevant weather or preparation recommendations.
