Do you ever feel stuck in your head - replaying conversations, questioning your boundaries, or wondering where you’re headed? You want to move forward, yet part of you still feels caught in old patterns. Starting therapy can feel daunting, especially when life already feels overwhelming. But therapy doesn’t have to be heavy. The work can be deep and meaningful while still leaving space for humour, lightness, and relief. Growth isn’t always found in intensity; it often happens when we soften and give ourselves room to breathe.
In our work together, we will make sense of the patterns that keep you feeling stuck. I offer a calm, welcoming, and judgment-free space where you can move at your own pace. My approach is warm and relational, focused on building awareness, self-compassion, and stronger communication with yourself and others.
I am passionate about supporting 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and adults. Many people have learned to silence parts of themselves to feel accepted. Together, we can begin untangling what is yours from what is not, so you can reconnect with the wholeness of who you are and move through your relationships and life transitions with more clarity and ease.
Who Matthew Supports
Mattie works with youth and adults in one-on-one therapy, with a focus on providing an affirming and supportive space for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. He helps clients who are navigating:
-
Relationships & Boundaries – Exploring patterns in communication and connection, setting healthy boundaries, and fostering deeper relationships with self and others.
-
Attachment Patterns – Gaining awareness of how past experiences influence current relationship dynamics and developing secure, healthier ways of relating.
-
Life Transitions & Identity Questions – Slowing down to make sense of internal conflicts, exploring sense of self, and navigating changes to move forward with greater clarity and ease.
-
Overthinking & Self-Doubt – Moving out of the 'stuck' loop of replaying old conversations and questioning your worth to build self-compassion and assurance.

Mattie aims to create a collaborative environment where clients can build awareness, self-compassion, and stronger communication to move through the world with confidence.
How Matthew Helps
Mattie takes a trauma-informed and client-centered approach, recognizing that healing and growth look different for everyone. Believing there is no one-size-fits-all solution, Mattie draws from a range of therapeutic modalities to tailor support to each person’s unique experiences, identity, and goals including:
-
Internal Family Systems (IFS) – Helps you explore different “parts” of yourself, understand their roles, and reconnect with your core sense of self.
-
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) – Encourages mindfulness and psychological flexibility, helping you live more fully in alignment with what truly matters to you.
-
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) – Supports emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and effective communication to navigate life’s challenges.
-
Attachment-Based Therapy – Examines how early relationships shape your patterns of trust, connection, and emotional safety.
-
Narrative Therapy – Helps you re-examine and rewrite the stories you tell about yourself, empowering you to create new meaning and direction.
-
Somatic Therapy – Brings attention to the connection between your mind and body, helping you notice physical sensations, release stored stress, and build a greater sense of safety and regulation in your nervous system.
Matthew’s Credentials & Training
Get to Know Matthew (Mattie)
Adopted from China and raised in Waterloo, Ontario, Mattie brings curiosity, openness, and authenticity into his work. As a queer-identifying therapist-in-training, he values inclusivity, self-discovery, and genuine connection—beliefs that shape his approach both in and outside the therapy room. Blending his background in technology with his passion for mental health, he brings a thoughtful balance of structure and creativity to his practice.
When not supporting clients, you can find him rock climbing, kayaking, or enjoying long walks along scenic trails. He appreciates all kinds of weather but finds something especially grounding about fall—the crisp air, colourful leaves, and the perfect excuse to put on some folk-pop music. He loves sharing a good board game with friends, exploring new cultures through travel, and savoring simple joys, like a scoop of “Superkid” ice cream.
His down-to-earth nature and love for both connection and curiosity guide his work with clients, creating a space where authenticity and growth can naturally unfold.
